The Journal of a Broken Man
F.W. Murnau’s classic 1922 silent horror film re-scored with live musical accompaniment by Tim Brownlow, from his original album, “The Journal of a Broken Man.”
Tim Brownlow’s presents, The Journal of a Broken Man, a live soundtrack to accompany the 1922 horror classic NOSFERATU. The show presents an evocative re-scoring of F.W. Murnau’s 1922 cult horror classic Nosferatu. Recorded in a Kent studio, its 14 tracks weave together acoustic textures, subtle electronics, and flashes of classic rock. Listeners drawn to the cinematic, genre-blurring work of Mercury Rev, Wilco, Pavement, and Rufus Wainwright will find familiar echoes here.
Each track corresponds to a scene from Nosferatu, guiding listeners through themes of love, longing, survival, and despair. Accompanying the release, Brownlow is developing a unique live show that pairs his performance with the film’s haunting visuals, creating an immersive audio-visual experience. The Journal of a Broken Man stands as both a powerful standalone album and a compelling reimagining of one of cinema’s most enduring classics.
Tim Brownlow is a UK-based songwriter, composer, vocalist, and guitarist whose career spans decades of critical acclaim. He first came to prominence with alternative rock band Belasco, whose debut album Simplicity (2000) was hailed by Uncut as having the potential to rival Coldplay. Since then, Brownlow has built a body of work celebrated for its emotional depth and distinctive fusion of indie rock, acoustic intimacy, and cinematic scope.
As a solo artist, he has continued to expand his sound, releasing the acoustic-led EP Behind Dark Trees and collaborating with Schiller on the chart-topping album Sonne. His music has also featured in film, television, and advertising, highlighting his versatility as a composer.
Tim Brownlow has succeeded in giving the 100-year-old silent film a voice through rock music.
