Guru, the one-time Gang Starr wordsmith, brings his nu-jazz Jazzmatazz project to The Voodoo Rooms once more, returning after two packed back to back nights in March.
He will be joined by Solar – producer of last year’s ‘Jazzmatazz Volume 4’ – with backing from the 7 Grand Players.
Guru’s laid-back, syrupy delivery, combined with his intelligent, introspective rhymes have maintained his prominence as one of hip-hop’s top lyricists. Solar has created the soundscape for the new and improved Guru and challenged him to push himself to new heights of his lyrical abilities.
Together Guru and Solar have broken away from the big gun record labels that stifled their artistic progress and set up 7 Grand Records – the perfect platform to deliver the futuristic sound of ‘Jazzmatazz Volume 4: The Hip Hop Jazz Messenger’: “Back To the Future.”
Note (Ewan): Renegade promoted shows in Scotland with Gang Starr (at The Garage in Glasgow) on 28th September, 1994, and Guru’s Jazzmatazz feat. Donald Byrd and Courtney Pine at The Assembly Rooms, Edinburgh on 2nd December, 1993, as well as three memorable nights at The Voodoo Rooms in 2008. It was with great sadness that we learned that the genre-blending hip-hop innovator and stellar wordsmith Guru passed away, far too soon, in April 2010.
